Engineering Innovation Happy Meal Toy (Spring 2019)

My team and I were tasked with creating an inexpensive, safe, and fun toy for McDonald’s Happy Meals. We developed a Fortnite llama toy to be released internationally from June 1st to July 28th to coincide with the 2019 Fortnite World Cup.

The llama toy features 4 injectable moldable, non-choking hazard parts: two halves of a llama body that snap together, a saddle that slides back and forth to reveal a coin slot on the llama body, and legs that slide along a track on the bottom of the llama body to release coins.

The llama’s body is hollow, with a one-inch slot across the top of the back and a larger opening at the bottom.

The saddle piece snaps into two slots on either side of the llama, enabling it to slide.

The leg piece is able to slide because it snaps into an embedded track within the hollow llama body. The leg piece also enables the llama to “stand” on its own

A small hole on the llama’s rear allows a tail piece made of yarn to be attached to the llama.

Brainstorming, character maps, screening and scoring matrices, and SolidWorks were used to develop the final product.
