SportBot Circuit Project: Video

SportBot Engineering Innovation (Spring 2019)

My team and I were tasked with demonstrating creative electromechanical applications for the next SportBot product line. The SportBot concept is intended to use autonomous machines that play entertaining ball games together as a team.

Our team built two prototypes using a liquid sensor to trigger a motor and a photoresistor to trigger a flexinol catapult.

I was responsible for the liquid sensor and motor. This was designed as a boat, which moved through a water channel, carrying a golf ball.

The boat was pulled by a string attached to a spool that was spun by a motor. The motor activated when the boat, equipped with a liquid sensor, touched the water and turned off once the boat (and a wire attached to it) was pulled out of the water. When the boat was placed into the water, the water completed the circuit, causing the motor to turn. A ramp at the end of the water channel ensured that the boat tipped over to deposit the ball on the other side of the channel.
